New Hope

Good morning everyone!

I am SO happy to be here. I have to start my first blog post as a new member of Donna’s Salazar’s design team by thanking her for this wonderful and amazing opportunity. I have been a huge fan of hers for a very long time so this is a huge honor for me. I love her products and I am so excited for this year.
For my first project I have created a layout about my sweet and wonderful Yorkie, Sophie Marie. Our story began when I wondered into our local humane society one day out of the blue. I WAS NOT looking for a dog and had no idea why I ended up there. When I walked in the first dog I saw was this ball of fur cowering on the floor. When I ask why she was not in a cage they explained she was a puppy mill rescue…had never been out of a cage and due to mental and health issue was unadoptable and she was going to have to be put to sleep. My heart sank on the spot and ask how much it would be for me to adopt her. They gave her to me. I went home with that sad dog in hand….KNOWING there would be some explaining to do to my husband! He was not happy……for about twenty minutes and then told me, “you better call and get her a veterinary and grooming appointment.” From that moment on she was ours.
The first year was so tough on all of us. There were a lot of issues to deal with. But now we do not know what we would do with out her. She has gone from that cowering little ball of fur to our spunky wild little watch dog. All she needed was time, love and someone to give her a little hope.
Karen Taylor NEW Hope LO May 2011
For my layout I have used the Donna Salazar’s GCD Studio’s Spring in Bloom paper line. The beautiful wood grain background is the Spring Sky. I accented the page with Tags, Ribbons & Mosaics, butterflies from Take Flight and the gorgeous roses were cut from In Bloom. I sprayed a doily from the cake decorating department of my local craft store with Clearsnap’s Pralines and Cream SmoochSpritz to make it stand out.  I inked the edges of all the papers to give them definition with Clearsnap’s fluid chalk cat’s eye Chocolate and Blueberries Queue ink.
Karen Taylor NEW Hope LO Close Up May 2011
The leaves were punched out of cardstock and I used Clearsnap’s Glue Gloss to adhere yummy Fairy Dust Glitter in Pralines and Cream to give my leaves some life. To finish off my page I really wanted my title to “pop”. I inked bare chipboard letters with Clearsnap’s fluid chalk cat’s eye Chocolate and Blueberries Queue ink and sanded to give an aged feel.
I love this bright and cheery page! Every time I will look at it I will be reminded how we all need NEW hope in our lives from time to time. I know Sophie’s thinks we we did so much for her ….but I think she did far more for us.

Thank you for coming by today and checking out my project. Come and check out Donna's Salazar's blog A Painterlady's View and check her and all of her design team members projects.

I have had so much fun creating my first project as a member of Donna Salazar's design team. I can not wait to get started on my next creation. I hope you have a fantastic day and until next time….be creative!

Congrats on your first post as at DT. But let me just say that this layout totally touched my heart. I can't bear to think that this adorable pup would of died because of someone being so stupid as to make a quick buck! Thank you and your husband and family for saving her. I saved one of my dogs from the pound he had a week to go before he was put to sleep. Best dog we have ever asked for. His partner Peanut we got from a friend who was about to take him to the pound because she couldn't keep him anymore. Thank you for sharing your story.

Karen, your page is absolutely beautiful! I love all the little details on the page, the colors of it. I had strong inkling to go adopt a dog this week and I don't even like dogs. But I like it pass for awhile, we'll see what happens.
